Originally released in 1972, Belle is the only full length release from Belle Gonzalez. The fact that there is only so little available material is something of tragedy; time spent in her company feels like taking a stroll around a magical sun-kissed paradise. Originally born in Italy, with Polish, Spanish, Filipino and Chinese heritage, Belle began performing in the Philippines in the 1950s and after meeting her husband in Singapore, moved to the UK and began to make waves. Some might be familiar with the song thanks to Cilla Black's cover, but the original is really all you ever need to hear. There are highlights all over the album but it's perhaps the gentle strum and heavenly vocals of 'Bottles' that really stands out. Belle is an album that has been the prize of rare record collectors for years, and with good reason. It deserves far greater
