A sensational warehouse find! Original sealed copies of an obscure 1979 private press LP by a hippie-flavored rural folk duo based in Pennsylvania. The style combines British traditional influences with flower power and US late '60s west-coast vibes. (Some copies may be slightly warped, but they play perfectly. Only few available
Hippie-flavored rural folk form this duo, who write good songs and deliver tight male-female vocal harmonies. It sounds almost a decade earlier than the release year, and recurring influences from UK folk (like Clearing) contribute further to the sense of displacement. Occasional use of piano and a strong sense of melody have made for some comparisons with Mellow Candle, and it's a testimony to Spiritwood's quality that this doesn't seem too outlandish. There are a few moves towards CSN domains, and late 1960's westcoast in general, which should have been explored more. The guitar arrangements (with banjo on two trad-ish numbers) interplay seamlessly with the strong vocals, and the personal commitment makes up for a certain lack of artistic direction." —Acid Archives
"Quite good hippie folk from a young Pennsylvania male-female duo who sing well and display substantial talent. This genre is certainly crowded with half-assed discs, but even a skeptic like me must admit that Spiritwood do their thing well, with a nice mix of westcoast and UK folk moves. Should appeal to Clearing fans, and more consistently good than either of the Clearing albums. Get this before it disappears and gets expensive like Clearing or Window." —Patrick Lundborg
