After a few years in the making and good 'ole maceration, Spanish folk duo Marta & Mauri, SonLosGrillos, deliver us their third album, Garden of Clouds. A melodic goldsmith work recorded at their home studio in Javea, Alicante, beneath the shadow of the magic Montgó mountain. Rich and colored in multiple shades and arrangements, it contains nine originals and a cover of Linda Perhacs.

Wrapping such a gift, and trying to preserve the warmth and love spread over the album, we have printed Marta's handwritten lyrics in a fold out insert, and over a textured cardboard cover, we find the perturbing arboreal engraving by TagoMago. We hope you love the result as much as we do!

Cosmic folk infused with magical Nature; every new release from SonLosGrillos implies the brightest times of the year, and without a doubt, this is one of the most beautiful records of this season.

Equal parts Pentangle, Mellow Candle and early Joni Mitchell, their largely acoustic sound is fleshed out with occasional flute, cello, trumpet and violin. Whether it's the lilting melody of 'You are Everything' or the fairground waltz of the title track, you're guaranteed a journey into the mystic and a respite from the stresses of the modern world. Alongside the nine original songs is a neat cover of Linda Perhacs' 'Porcelain Baked-Over Cast-Iron Wedding', laced with chiming 12-string guitar. A fresh and welcome flowering.

...you may have already surmised that SonLosGrillos is an acid folk group. On some songs, like "Into the Circle," I am reminded of Us & Them as well as what you might have heard in folk music venues in Texas in the 70s. On others, such as the title track and "Cherry Blossom," the music is akin to British folk group Pentangle. The addition of the strings on several songs greatly enhances the sound, especially the dark acid folk hymn "Holy Mother" that closes the album... Garden of Clouds is sure to please any fan of British folk and/or acid folk.
