McDonald & Sherby's Catharsis is a psychedelic rock album showcasing the band's prog and heavy psychedelic guitar sounds. Recorded at Sound 80 Studios in Minneapolis, the album is McDonald & Sherby's only noteworthy contribution to twentieth-century music. Originally released on the Omniscient label, Catharsis has become extremely rare and highly sought after by collectors of obscure psychedelic and progressive rock. The album consists of six lengthy tracks that attest to considerable musical self-assurance and skillful guitar work. Despite the band's stylistic leanings suggesting a later recording period, the album was completed in 1969 and captures the spirit of late sixties psychedelia. For many decades, Catharsis was unavailable in modern formats, turning the original vinyl releases into precious artifacts for dedicated fans. In the early nineties, a vinyl reissue appeared on the Rockadelic label, giving listeners access to the album outside of the original pressing for the first time. This CD reissue marks the first time Catharsis is available in CD format, finally making this superbly produced heavy psychedelic guitar album available to a wider audience in its original form. The recording quality and production remain impressive despite the album's age, highlighting the professional execution of this cult classic. This release allows both longtime admirers and new listeners to become acquainted with one of the most underrated and overlooked recordings in progressive psychedelia.
